Divorce

If you are going through a divorce, every part of your life is on the table: from your home, to your investments and retirement benefits, to the amount of time you spend with your children. Our attorneys will advise you of your rights and work with you to determine how best to resolve issues such as child custody, child support, spousal support, property division, and prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements.

Child Custody & Support

Our attorneys are dedicated to helping you work out a reasonable child custody and visitation arrangement that is reasonable to all parties. If that is not possible, our lawyers have the experience to guide you through the court process used to determine custody.

Property Division & Spousal Support

Property division is a large part of any divorce, especially when there are significant or complex assets. Federal tax regulation and Massachusetts laws regarding how to divide the marital estate are evolving on a regular basis. Our attorneys stay current on legal developments and have experience negotiating and litigating these issues.

Estate Planning

When you create an estate plan, you need to consider everything that is important to you, including your home, your business, your family, and your end-of-life philosophy when it comes to such matters as artificial life support. Our attorneys can help you create an estate plan that protects your assets, your values, and your goals.

Contested Estates, Probate, and Wills

While most probate proceeding go smoothly, there are times when you may need a lawyer to represent your interests. Long-simmering family disputes may come to a boil after a parent dies, and our lawyers are skilled at resolving issues quickly, quietly, and efficiently through direct negotiations. If negotiations do not work, we can fight for your interests in probate litigation.

Civil Litigation

The civil justice system exits to help people resolve disputes of a non-criminal nature, such as claims regarding shoddy construction on a home improvement project, a breach of contract claim, or a car accident injury claim. If you have a civil dispute with another party, our lawyers can help you understand your rights and obligations under the law.

Criminal & Traffic Offenses

Being arrested for a criminal offense is an embarrassing event—and one you want to put behind you as quickly as possible. However, before you do or say anything, you should first talk to an experienced criminal defense lawyer. By trying to explain or resolve the matter yourself, you could end up making matters worse and placing your future in jeopardy.

Domestic Violence and Restraining Orders

Domestic violence restraining orders are one of the most common types of charges in Massachusetts. They are also one of the most commonly abused. In 2004, 45,000 domestic restraining orders were sought in Middlesex County. Judges dismissed or vacated more than 35,000 of those orders during the first hearing. We are experienced in obtaining and enforcing orders for protection against abuse as well as vacating or modifying inappropriate or overbroad restraining orders.

OUI/DUI/DWI Defense

The landscape for OUI defense in Massachusetts becomes dramatically more challenging with each change in the law. In the past three years, there have been several major revisions to Massachusetts law, particularly in 2006 with the passage of Melanie's Law. In the past, most lawyers would advise their clients to refuse to take a breathalyzer test or field sobriety test if there was any chance they could fail. Without evidence from those tests, the Commonwealth had little evidence to convict you. However, after the passage of Melanie's law, the government can convict you for drunk driving even if you refused to take a breathalyzer test and the potential penalties are more severe.
